Professional Biography

Dr Uglow is British and trained in Orthopedics in the United Kingdom and at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in Sydney, Australia.

He qualified as a doctor in 1989 from St George’s Hospital medical school in London. He trained in orthopaedic surgery in the Wessex region and was appointed as a Consultant in 2000 working first at Portsmouth Hospital in the UK and then from 2002 at University Hospital Southampton where he held the role of lead clinician for Children’s Orthopedic Surgery. During this time, he served on and was Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee for Spire Hospital Southampton and was Chairman of Hampshire Orthopedics, a group of 27 consultant orthopaedic surgeons.

In 2017 he moved to Abu Dhabi to practise at the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City where he was Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Head of the Department of Orthopedics.

In 2023 he became the Head of the Paley Middle East Clinic in Abu Dhabi.

Dr Uglow is an expert in children’s orthopedics, specialising in limb length and deformity correction as well as surgery of the foot & ankle in children and adults. He has extensive experience in the management of children’s trauma as well as bone & joint infection.

Dr Uglow has published research on club foot surgery and various aspects of Orthopedics and trauma and has been keenly involved in ongoing education of surgeons. He is frequently involved with lecturing internationally and was admitted to the board of examiners to the Intercollegiate Speciality Examination in Trauma & Orthopedic Surgery in the UK.

Awards

Dr Uglow received two separate awards from the British Society for Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery (BSCOS) to visit experts considered World Leaders in the field.

He visited Dr Ignacio Ponseti in 2003 at The University of Iowa, USA who pioneered the method of serial casting for the management of babies with clubfeet.

In 2016 he visited Dr Vincent Mosca at The Seattle Children’s Hospital who is a leading expert in the treatment of children’s foot disorders. 

Dr Uglow received a Conferred Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2016 for his contribution to advancing Children’s Orthopaedics and for his lecture presentations for The International Trauma Symposium.
